It is designed to be a resource for everyone who wants to share information which might be valuable and for everyone who wants to learn more about CISTEC activities.
Now Japanese companies extending their activities world-wide, the compliance businesses of their subsidiaries and affiliates abroad become more and more important, and it is now necessary for them to communicate more with respective local authorities and also to promote the understandings of security export controls on the part of their partners as well.
Under these circumstances, CISTEC started to organize export control seminars abroad for both Japanese subsidiaries/affiliates and local companies last year in Beijing, China. This year, we successfully held the seminar, second of such kind, jointly with Strategic Trade Information Center (STIC) of Korea in Seoul, Korea on February 22, 2005.
The purpose of this Seminar was to promote the awareness and understandings of security export controls and their importance and necessity for business activities, by providing practical information such as legal systems and implementations of both countries, examples of companies’ internal controls, etc. and finally to share our experiences with Korean industries as well as government agencies and institutions, etc. Korea has joined all international export control regimes by 2001 and introduced Catch-all controls in January of 2003. In addition to that, in February of last year, Strategic Items Control Division was established in Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE), and Strategic Trade Information Center (STIC) was organized in August of last year. However, it is said that the necessity of the controls have not established in the Korean Industry enough, and we felt that there are needs in the Korean Industry to improve this situation.
On the previous day of the Seminar, considering the importance to promote the implementation of security export controls by governments and industries in respective countries, CISTEC and STIC signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand cooperation on the business activities of the both sides.
