 The Report on the 16th Asian Export Control Seminar

Center for International Cooperation

   Since 1993, under the patronage of METI and MOFA Japan, CISTEC has hosted the Asian Export Control Seminar inviting officials in charge of export control in Asian countries and regions. And this year 2009, the 16 th Seminar was held from February 17 th – 19 th for three days, with the participants from 18 countries and regions in addition to Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States as cooperating countries.

  During the seminar, all participants seemed to exchange and to share the WMD proliferation concerns, importance of continuing the establishment of effective export controls system in Asia, and the significance of efforts on export controls not only by the government but also by the industries and outreach activities by the governments to the industries. There were lively questions and discussions during the Q&A on each session, which showed the progress for the strong awareness and efforts on export controls in the region.
