The Japan Association of International Security and Trade’s 6th Research Symposium was held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Doshisha University. This was the second symposium to be held in the Kansai area and more than 70 members participated. As with the previous symposium, the morning session was devoted to a theme-free session during which younger researchers gave presentations concerning which comments were made and discussion took place. The program of symposium is as shown below. In the 1st session of the afternoon, the theme of "US Re-export Controls" was examined in which results of field research in the US were given and debated from the perspective of international politics. Further, in light of the recent increase in importance of the management of the outflow of technology, the 2nd session looked at the topic of "Deemed Export Regulations and Technology Transfer". During this session, analysis of the present situation of and issues in the US were made, and reports on the issues facing universities and Japanese corporations as well as on the efforts of the Japanese government were given, after which a lively discussion involving representatives from industry, academia and government took place. Since all of these topics include many issues related to security and trade in Japan, participants were quite interested and a proactive discussion was held.
