JAIST on the 15th Asia Export Control Seminar

The Japan Association of International Security and Trade (JAIST) launched a new attempt this year as it held a "Joint Session with the participants in the 15th Asian Export Control Seminar" on the morning of November 22, 2007. The Seminar itself was held in Miyako Hotel, Tokyo from November 20 to 22, 2007 with participants from 24 countries and regions.
Since its inception, JAIST has continuously revisited the issue of "Changes in the Security Environment in Asia and Export Controls" and exchanged opinions from a stance somewhat independent of the political positions of the Japanese government concerning how to cooperate in the field of export controls in the Asian region, which JAIST has continually devoted much time to.
After the keynote report, JAIST raised issues regarding regional cooperation in export controls in Asia. A panel discussion ensued following presentations from Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea. JAIST was successful in exchanging opinions in a positive manner with Seminar participants, and it feels that it has taken the first step to constructively contributing the promotion of export control systems in Asia for the future. Some 30 plus JAIST members participated in the session and the JAIST aims to actively make use of this opportunity for a further development of its international outreach activities.
